China's top legislator, Wu Bangguo, has arrived in Vienna for an official goodwill visit to Austria. He is the first Chairman of the Standing Committee of China's National People's Congress to visit the country in the past 15 years.
Wu exchanged views with Austrian officials on bilateral relations, as well as regional and international issues of common concern.
Austria is the second leg of Wu Bangguo's three-nation tour. He arrived in the country on Friday after concluding a visit to Russia.
In a written statement released upon his arrival, Wu Bangguo said that China is ready to enhance cooperation with Austria in all fields.
He said the two sides should join hands to address the impact of the international financial crisis.
Wu Bangguo later met with Austrian President Heinz Fischer.
He said China is ready to expand friendly contact between the two governments, parliaments and political parties of the two countries on a basis of mutual respect, equality and mutual benefits.
The two countries should enhance mutual understanding and trust so as to carry out closer coordination and communication on international affairs.
Fischer expressed the belief that Wu's visit will help enhance friendship and advance cooperation in all fields.
The Austrian leader reiterated that the one-China policy is a consensus of all political parties in his country.
Wu Bangguo briefed Fischer about China's policy measures to address the financial crisis and maintain stable, fast economic growth.
On China-EU relations, Wu said both sides should firmly support each other's development.
He also expressed his desire the two sides would work together to curb trade and investment protectionism and maintain rapid growth of trade and economic cooperation.
