In another match, Novak Djokovic took on tournament wildcard Ivan Ljubicic. The world number four struggled to find his rhythm in the early games, but regained his momentum to take the match, 6-4, 6-4 in one hour and 45 minutes.

Mauresmo comes from behind to beat Szavay

On the women's side, Amelie Mauresmo lost the first set against Agnes Szavay of Hungary. But the Frenchwoman broke her opponent twice to claim the second, and dominated the third to take a 5-7, 6-1, 6-1 win.
