World Museum Day falls on Monday, May the 18th. CCTV's Science and Education Channel, or Channel Ten, will broadcast a live show focusing on both the new and the existing museums in China.

The live show for World Museum Day will shine a spotlight on China's first underwater museum in Sichuan province. The museum was built to protect the Bai He Liang, a group of stone inscriptions along the Yangtze River. They were made more than a thousand years ago during the Tang dynasty and served as the hydrology records in ancient times. But the ancient engravings were lost after being submerged by the Three Gorges project. After six years of construction, the museum will open to the public on Monday morning, allowing the inscriptions to be seen once again.

CCTV's program will also showcase a new museum in Shenyang city in northeastern China which aims to preserve a local iron and steel factory site.

Also on Monday, Channel Ten will launch a series on Chinese cultural heritage to celebrate World Museum Day. The series will be aired for a month, until the Oral and Intangible Heritage Day is held in China in mid June. A selection of popular TV hosts will front the series.
