QUITO, June 1 (Xinhua) -- Spaniard coach Benito Floro was fired on Monday as coach of Ecuadorian soccer club Barcelona due to bad results, club president Eduardo Maruri said.

"Unfortunately soccer is about results. We had a disscusion of gentlemen with Floto and we understood there are not conditions for him to continue as the coach of Barcelona," Maruri said.

However, Maruri said that Floro should not bear all the blame.

"The only one responsible for the failure is the president of the club - I, Eduardo Maruri," he said.

Floro joined Barcelona last Decemeber under a two-year contract. Barcelona played 17 matches under his charge, with five wins, five draws and seven losses. to be in the 10th place in the 12-team domestic league.

Maruri said that due to Floro's exit the club will train under the interim coach Ecuadorian Flavio Perlaza, who has coached minor league teams.

"A group of professionals from Barcelona will be temporarily coaching the club till we have a new coach," Maruri said.
