Christian Bale picks up the baton for the fourth Terminator film, called "Salvation", to continue the war against the machines six years after the last installment of the iconic franchise was released.
Christian Bale stars as John Connor, touted as the leader of the human resistance since 'The Terminator' was released in 1984.
Bale had initially been approached to play half human-half cyborg Marcus Wright - a role instead taken by Sam Worthington, who's been winning rave reviews for his performance.
Actor Christian Bale said, "They were originally talking to me about playing Marcus Wright, who's really the true lead in Salvation, he starts and he finishes the movie, he has the more dynamic role in that he has this internal conflict of man versus machine within himself which Connor is fighting externally."
The star said he was finally sold on the idea of the movie when he heard more about its post-apocalyptic setting - a time in the near future shortly after a nuclear catastrophe.
Now enjoying major success in Hollywood, the British actor was also key in the reboot of another classic franchise, with his starring roles in 'Batman Begins' and 'The Dark Knight.'
He insists he will continue to make the smaller films he's also become known for, like 'The Machinist' and 'Rescue Dawn', and would happily return home to make the right independent movie.
Directed by McG, 'Terminator Salvation' is currently at the top of the UK box office.
