HANGZHOU, July 3 (Xinhua) -- The drag-racing driver who had killed a pedestrian in east China's Zhejiang Province was charged with vehicular manslaughter, said local authorities on Friday.

Hu Bin, 20, allegedly violated the traffic regulations and caused the death of Tan Zhuo by speeding, said an official with the procuratorate of Hangzhou city, capital of Zhejiang.

His alleged conduct violated clause 133 of the Criminal Law, said the official.

The lawsuit was presented to the people's court of Xihu (West Lake) district.

Hu, a university student, aroused public anger after he allegedly killed a pedestrian, 25-year-old Tan Zhuo, in downtown Hangzhou on May 7. He was detained on May 8. Hu was driving a Mitsubishi sports car and a forensic analysis report showed the speed was between 84.1 km and 101.2 km per hour.

Speed limit on the road is 50 km per hour.
