Movie Tangshan Earthquake represented on big screen

Veteran Chinese director Feng Xiaogang, known for his comedies, is now working on a movie about the Tangshan Earthquake in 1976. The production team held an opening ceremony on Tuesday in the city, with silent tribute to the earthquake victims some 33 years ago.

Director Feng Xiaogang was there with lead actors Xu Fan, Chen Daoming, Zhang Guoqiang, Chen Jin, Lu Yi and Li Chen.

On July 28th, 1976, a deadly earthquake jolted Tangshan in Hebei Province, whick killed more than 240-thousand people.

The movie is set against the backdrop of the disaster. It revolves around the life of a 7-year-old survivor.

It also examines the mental traumas suffered by victims in the aftermath.

Director Feng Xiaogang said, "There will be people feeling very sad after watching this film. But I think this is actually a picture that warms your heart, because it centers on the affection among family members who, still stay together after the quake and rebuild their faith in life."
