BEIJING, Aug. 18 (Xinhua) -- A senior Chinese official Tuesday called for stepped-up efforts in China's judicial reform in order to perfect the country's socialist judicial system.
Zhou Yongkang, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, made the comment when presiding over a meeting here on judicial reform and work.
"Currently, protecting China's national security and social stability has become more challenging, as we are still faced with many problems in our political and judicial work," said Zhou, who is also the secretary of the Political and Legislative Affairs Committee of the CPC Central Committee.
Judicial reform must meet the people's demands and expectations, and should be able to accommodate the current situation in the country, he said, adding that breakthroughs must be made in the reform.
