Shooting is underway for the much-anticipated Chinese film "Tangshan Earthquake". We visited the film crew on location to see how the shooting is going.
Cast and crew were currently shooting the scene before the devastating earthquake happens.
The natural disaster happened on July 28th in 1976. It is believed to have caused more deaths than any other earthquake in the 20 century, claiming the lives of some 240-thousand people. The epicenter was in Tangshan, an industrial city in North China's Hebei Province with a population of about one-million.
The film selected more than 200 actual residents of Tangshan to participate the filming. As witnesses and survivors of the catastrophe, they were more than willing to take part.
Mr. Li was buried under the debris for three hours. He was finally saved by his sister. He said he was helping with the film to commemorate his family members who were lost in the disaster, as well as all the quake's the victims.
Director Feng Xiaogang said, "We were shooting the scene of survivors mourning their lost family members several days ago. After the camera started rolling, they just couldn't stop. They cried their eyes out. What they say are all impromptu things that weren't written in the script."
The film is set to be released on July 28th next year to commemorate the 34th anniversary of the natural disaster.
