The song and dance show "Changbai Mountain and A Ri Rang", has taken bold steps to blend ballet with the traditional folk dances of the Korean ethnic minority. Other innovations have been put into the costumes and stage sets, giving this production a stronger visual effect.

Astute audience members will find that the Korean folk dances in this show have placed heavy emphasis on interpretation and sensitivity, with a more exquisite sense of emotion. But there is no lack of the usual strength found in these moves, thanks to the blending of ballet into the traditional Korean dance.

A dancer said, "Conventionally, we hide our chest a little and then breath and dance. But we made some change this time. The back is more straight when modern elements are blended in. "

An audience member said, "Costumes, stage set, props, everything is OK, and the plot is intense. I think it's a perfect show. "

An audience member said, "The stage set, light design, choreography and the performance of some traditional Korean musical instruments, all have a new face. It's quite different from the old Korean folk dance. It's marked with the features of a new era."

"Changbai Mountain, A Ri Rang" was presented by Yanbian Song and Dance Troupe at Beijing's Cultural Palace of Nationalities on Tuesday and Wednesday. Founded in 1946, the troupe is famous for inheriting and developing the art of Korean ethnic people.
