Now, when the Huabiao Awards convene again in 2011, Ye Ying, an accomplished filmmaker in China, may find his own name on the list of nominees. He has just concluded his trilogy of revolutionary-era stories. His latest work, "Tian'anmen", will open in September across the country. The film is the director's tribute to the 60th anniversary of the founding of People's Republic of China.

The story of "Tian'anmen" revolves around actual events in the months following the end of the Liberation War in 1949. At that time, the Gate of Heavenly Peace at the entrance of the Forbidden City in Beijing required an extensive facelift. The film follows a group of army engineers and designers who were instrumental in preparing the centuries-old tower structure for the grand ceremony on October the first. THE ceremony that marked the founding of New China.

Leading the cast are Pan Yueming and Guo Keyu, who play the leaders of the engineers and designers. A prominent feature of the movie is its use of advanced digital imagery. The technology allowed the actors to appear alongside Chairman Mao Zedong, as they are inserted within the documentary footage captured during the ceremony sixty years ago.

To realistically represent the grand scale of the landmark occasion, thousands of extras were used and top aerial photographers from Europe were hired to film the breathtaking sequence. The movie "Tian'anmen" will open across China in September.
