Backgrounder: Schedule of G-20 summit on Sept. 25

PITTSBURGH, United States, Sept. 25 (Xinhua) -- Leaders from the Group of 20 (G-20) are meeting here Friday to coordinate their positions on global economic recovery, financial regulatory reform and world trade issues.

The following is the summit's schedule on Friday based on information provided by the White House:

At 9:30 EDT (1330 GMT), U.S. President Barack Obama will open the morning plenary session at the David A. Lawrence Convention Center.

At 12:45 EDT (1645 GMT), the G-20 leaders will attend a luncheon hosted by Obama.

At 14:00 EDT (1800 GMT), the G-20 leaders will begin their afternoon plenary session.

At 16:40 EDT (2040 GMT), a post-summit news conference will be held.

There are also bilateral meetings between G-20 leaders on the sidelines of the summit throughout the day.

Most of the G-20 arrived here Thursday and attended an opening reception and working dinner hosted by Obama.

Formally established in 1999 to bring together major industrialized and developing economies to discuss key issues concerning global economy, the G-20 group consists of Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Britain, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, South Korea, Turkey, the United States and the European Union.

The group, which represents 85 percent of the world economy and two-thirds of the global population, is meeting here Sept. 24-25 for its third summit in the past year after gathering in Washington in November and in London in April.
