Pakistani police station registers murder case against Musharraf

ISLAMABAD, Oct. 14 (Xinhua) -- The murder case of a late governor has been registered against former president Pervez Musharraf and a number of key officials of his regime in a police station of southwest Pakistan's district, local TV channels reported Wednesday.

On October 7, Balochistan High Court (BHC) in Pakistan ordered registration of Nawab Akber Bugti case against former high-ups of then government when Akber Bugti was murdered.

According to sources, the chief justice of BHC, during the hearing regarding the case of First Information Report (FIR) registration of the murder case of the Baloch leader Nawab Akbar Bugti, has issued directives to SHO Dera Bugti police station to lodge FIR against the offenders including the former president, former Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz, former Balochistan Chief Minister Jaam Yousuf, and former Home Minister Balochistan Aftab Ahmed Khan Sherpaio who had involvement in the murder.

Dera Bugti police station registered Tuesday the FIR on the complaint of the deceased's son Jamil Akbar Bugti, the private channel GEO News reported.

Earlier in September, for the hearing of the case, BHC served notices on Musharraf, Shaukat Aziz, and other former federal and provincial officers to appear before the court through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Nawab Akbar Bugti was killed in 2006 by security forces during Musharraf's regime. He is also the chief of the Bugti tribe who went underground in 2005 joining militants that have been waging an armed insurgency for a long time.

Since late 2004, hundreds of people have been killed in the clashes between security forces and local anti-government tribals demanding greater autonomy and a bigger share of profits from southwest Pakistani Balochistan's natural resources.
