Because China is the guest of honor, various exhibitions are being featured to showcase Chinese art and culture at the event. Among them is an exhibition of contemporary art by six Chinese artists.

The Chinese contemporary art exhibition opened on Monday at the Frankfurt Basis Art Gallery. It's the only exhibition of fine art brought by the Guest of Honor to the Frankfurt Book Fair.

The art show is entitled "Revival of Tradition". It gathers thirty works created by six well-known Chinese artists. They are Feng Dazhong, Shang Yang, Tian Liming, Tan Ping, Chen Qi, and Cai Zhisong. They interpret the essence of Chinese culture, in the mature language of contemporary art. Their creations range from the field of ink painting and oil painting, to wood prints and sculpture.

Xu Juan, organizer of Chinese Contemporary Art Exhibition, said, "Chinese contemporary art seeks inspiration from traditional Chinese culture, to revive it with renewed form. The contemporary form highlights the traditions, to make them more intense."

German artists were on hand who regards the event as a form of communication with their Chinese peers.

German artist Florian Jenett said, "To see which artists are chosen to represent current Chinese contemporary art is an interesting thing. They are quite different from my works, but they are very great!"

The five day Frankfurt Book Fair will also feature presentations by Chinese writers, folk art displays, and exhibitions of cultural heritages from China.
