MANAGUA, Oct. 15 (Xinhua) -- Ousted Honduran President Manuel Zelaya celebrated on Thursday the national soccer team's qualification for the World Cup of South Africa 2010, Nicaraguan diplomatic sources said on Thursday.

According to a Honduran spokesman in Managua, Zelaya who is staying at the Brazilian embassy in Tegucigalpa, capital of Honduras, since Sept. 21, celebrated the triumph of his country's soccer team.

According to Honduran diplomat in Managua, Zelaya said "this night is of glory for the Honduran people," after Honduras got its ticket to the soccer gala in South Africa next year.

Zelaya said that the qualification confirms the success of his government by having supported the national team for three years, and that it is something that must be continued.

"It is proven that when the people is united, it achieves its highest goals, and this is the kind of positive messages that we must send to the world," Zelaya said.
