Special Report: 11th National Games |
JINAN, East China, Oct. 20 (Xinhua) -- Shangdong men's track cycling team finished the four-kilometer route with astounding 4:09.383, bettering the Asian record of 4:10.886, in a qualification round at the 11th Chinese National Games Tuesday.
Former Asian record holder, the Tianjin team quartet of Li Wei, Ma Teng, Chen Libin and Qu Xuelong participated in the qualification round afterwards, and finished with 4:10.001.
Both the teams outperformed the Asian record that the Tianjin quartet set in the 2009 Track Cycling World Championships in Poland this March.
The two teams will compete for the gold medal in the afternoon.
The new Asian record, however, needs final confirmation by the Asian Cycling Federation before it is recognized, a referee of the competition said.
