Special Report: 11th National Games |
JINAN, East China, Oct. 19 (Xinhua) -- Asian record holders Wang Chongyang and Jiang Fan defended their titles Monday in their events of track cycling at 11th National Games.
They will both enter the Chinese national team and are ready to win honors at the 2010 Asian Games.
Wang of Shanxi started slow and was struggling a bit in the middle, but managed to speed up in the final lap in men's 1km time trial. He crossed the line in 1.03.032 minutes, shaking about two seconds off the Asian record he set at the 2009 national championship of track cycling.
But this result was not as good as he had expected. The 21-year-old Wang would race at a speed of 70km per hour in the best form.
"It is cold today which disturbs the performance," said Wang. "But it is good to win."
Yue Anyuan, Wang's coach, said the youngster would enter the national team after the games to prepare for 2010 Asian Games and 2012 Olympics .
"I am in great form now and I would leave no stones unturned for the medals of 2010 Asian Games," said Wang.
Jiang Fan of PLA team, a 19-year-old rising star, won the gold medal in women's 3km individual pursuit. She also notched the Asian record with 3.38.643 minutes in this event at the 2009 national championship of track cycling.
Unlike most female athletes who don't put on make-ups, she cares much about her appearance and is proud of her excellent make-up skills.
"Most of the time the training is boring," said Jiang, "but putting on make-ups is joyful which brightens my training life. Anyway, I am only 19, beauty might be as important as training," she joked.
"But speaking of training, my next target is the Asian Games for sure, and I would strive for glory," said Jiang.
