Business sector welcomes Indonesia economic team

JAKARTA, Oct. 22 (Xinhua) -- Businessmen welcome the economic team at the new Indonesia cabinet, a media reported here Thursday.

The key former economic ministers, including Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati and Trade Minister Mari Elka Pangestu stayed in their position.

Chairman of Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry Muhammad Sulaiman Hidayat have been appointed as Industry Ministry and a former technocrat in economy Boediono who has a good track record in managing the country's economy has posted vice presidency.

Senior businessman Sofyan Wanandi was quoted by the Jakarta Post as saying that the team should be given a chance to prove themselves in their first year.

The businessman said he believed Coordinating Minister for the Economy Hatta Radjasa, who is a senior minister, would be able to work well with other ministers due to his strong connections.

Sofyan also said Trade Minister Mari Elka Pangestu and Finance Minister Sri Mulyani gave hopes that the economy would get better.

But, he said, the new government should pay more attention to resolving infrastructure problems.

"We have been given too many unfulfilled promises. It is important for the government to move fast. In the past, former vice president Jusuf Kalla always pushed (legislation) hard, now Boediono should do the same," he said.
