More film awards are coming soon as the nominations for this year's British Independent Film Awards were announced on Monday. Family drama, space adventure, political debate, and even John Lennon are all featured in the movies up for top prize.
Andrea Arnold's 'Fish Tank' leads the field with eight mentions including nods for its young star Kate Jarvis in both the Best Actress and Most Promising Newcomer categories.
She makes her debut in the film playing 15-year-old Mia, a girl who finds her life turned inside out when her mum brings home a new boyfriend.
Also featured on the shortlist was sci-fi flick 'Moon'.
Directed by David Bowie's son Duncan Jones, it features Sam Rockwell as an astronaut working alone in space waiting to go home to his family.
Three films were nominated for six awards each. They are 'An Education', which sees the school of life compete against a university offer for a young student Armando Iannucci's foul-mouthed behind-the-scenes look at Westminster satire, 'In The Loop' and John Lennon's teen years portrayed by Sam Taylor-Wood in 'Nowhere Boy'.
'Bright Star', Jane Campion's interpretation of the love affair of poet John Keats, is in the running for four trophies.
All the film-makers will have to wait until the ceremony on December 6th to see if they've won, but it's already been announced that Daniel Day Lewis will not leave the event empty-handed.
The actor is being given the Richard Harris Award for his outstanding contribution to British Film.
