A grand exhibition of archeological treasures is underway in Luoyang City in Henan province. The Luoyang Museum is displaying the cherished artifacts collected by more than 70 institutions at home and abroad.
The extraordinary show is part of the institution's celebration of the 60th anniversary of the founding of New China. It opened last weekend and is drawing huge crowds. The collections gathered together are displayed in four independent sections.
Qin-Han and Roman Civilizations, a collaboration between China and Italy, features nearly 500 artifacts from 18-hundred to two thousand years old. All are among the top attractions at museums in China and Italy. Some of the Italian pieces are being seen overseas for the first time.
The Urban Centers of Chinese Antiquity brings together relics from the eight ancient capitals of Chinese civilization. The time-honored achievements in engineering and craft making are illustrated with artifacts and graphics.
The other sections are of local nature. The Archeological Site Show and the Ancient Treasures of Luoyang focus on the material tradition of the host city, which was built some three thousand years ago.
The show will run until mid January.
