The blasts and fire erupted while ammunition was being destroyed at the arsenal in the province of Ulyanovsk, about 7-hundred kilometers east of Moscow.

Dozens of people feared trapped in the inferno took refuge in a bomb shelter and later emerged safe. But a later report claimed 11 others were still unaccounted for. The provincial governor says six people remain hospitalized.
