Taiwan's top model-turned-actress Lam Chi-ling stars in "The Treasure Hunter", due for release next month. Another one of her films will be released next summer. In that film, she plays opposite mainland actor, Sun Honglei.

Taiwan socialist Liu Wei-Kung said Lam Chi-Ling has a "soft power" that makes people feel comfortable.

Talking about her role as "Xiao Qiao" in the historic epic, "Red Cliff", Lam said it was a role that demanded versatility.

Lam's "soft power" has boosted her popularity in Taiwan.

Born in 1974, Lam became a model when she was 22 years old. At the age of 30, she was a television host. At 33, she met one of the most successful Chinese directors in Hollywood, John Woo. He cast Lam for her breakthrough role in "Red Cliff".

Before her on screen debut, Lam Chi-Ling's success had been built on her modelling.

Lam Chi-Ling graduated from the University of Toronto with a bachelor in Western Art History and Economics.

In Taiwan's entertainment circles, she is renowned for employing her sharp wit when dealing with the paparazzi.

Lam promoted her film debut, "Red Cliff", at last year's Cannes Film Festival. Back then, she gushed to reporters that she had finally found her artistic calling.

Lam stars  alongside Taiwan's RnB idol Jay Chow for her latest film, "The Treasure Hunter". It will be screened on December 9th.
