SANTIAGO, Nov. 19 (Xinhua) -- Chile will read the report sent by Peru on the alleged spying case of a Peruvian subofficer and then reply accordingly to Peru, Chile's Foreign Minister Mariano Fernandez said Thursday.

Fernandez said that Chile would have no problems in replying as long as "the right diplomatic mechanism" is used.

Peru is waiting for a "concrete" answer from Chile regarding the alleged spying case, which has caused a new diplomatic impasse between the two countries.

Peru's Foreign Minister Jose Garcia Belaunde said on Tuesday that the Peruvian government considers the spying "an act of betrayal against the homeland (performed by the spy) and a hostile act done by Chile."

Also on Tuesday, Fernandez said that the Chilean institutions do not spy, nor do they engage in illegal activities, adding that it was unacceptable that anyone would accuse them of doing so.

Some Peruvian legislators have even demanded to review Peru's Free Trade Agreement with Chile.

According to the Peruvian media, the Peruvian subofficer of the Air Force involved in the alleged spying case sold confidential information to Chile, including the Peruvian government's military purchase program until 2021 and other strategic documents.
