As the weather grows colder the competition in the DVD market is heating up. The films that did well at the box office are again stirring people's appetite for watching movies -- but this time at home to avoid winter's chill.

NO.5 G.I.JOE: THE RISE OF COBRA

This movie is a 2009 American live-action film adaptation of the G.I.Joe: A Real American Hero toy franchise. The story follows two American soldiers, Duke and Ripcord, who join the G.I.Joe Team after being attacked by Cobra troops. The movie is another example of a successful film adaptation of a popular cartoon and toy after the Transformers sequels.

NO.4 THE TAKING OF PELHAM 123

This thriller is based on the novel of the same name. It's also the second remake of the original 1974 film, following the 1998 TV movie. Four heavily armed men, led by Ryder, played by John Travolta, board New York City subway 6 train as it departs from Pelham Bay Park and take control of it. MTA dispatcher Garber, played by Denzel Washington, solves the crisis with his mastery of the underground system. The movie's director, Tony Scott, also has credits in Top Gun and Enemy of the State.

NO.3 ALIENS IN THE ATTIC

Co-scripted by one of the writers of Madagascar and the Academy Award winning Wallace and Gromit: the Curse of the Were Rabbits, it's an adventure comedy about kids on a family vacation who must fight off an attack by knee-high alien invaders out to destroy the world. The youngsters' parents remain clueless about the battle. The film's production crew also created a computer game of the same name. And the DVD version includes scenes deleted from the movie and behind-the-scene intros.

NO.2 THE PROPOSAL

Margaret Tate, played by Sandra Bullock, is the executive editor-in-chief of a book publisher in the United States. After learning she is being deported to Canada, she forces her American assistant Andrew, played by Ryan Reynolds, to marry her, as the marriage will allow her to stay. In an ironic twist, Sandra Bullock is American and her co-star Ryan Reynolds is Canadian. The fine performances of the two actors add a lot of fun to this romantic comedy.

NO.1 WATCHMEN

Set in an alternate-history 1985, tensions heighten between the United States and the Soviet Union as a group of former vigilantes investigate an apparent conspiracy against them and uncover something even more grandiose and sinister. Watchmen is billed as yet another high point of comics adapted to film after "Batman: the Dark Knight".
