Ousted Honduran president urges int'l community not to recognize elections

TEGUCIGALPA, Nov. 23 (Xinhua) -- Ousted Honduran President Manuel Zelaya on Monday again appealed to the international community not to recognize the Nov. 29 elections to be held by the post-coup government in Honduras.

Local radio station Radio Globo on Monday read a letter by Zelaya in which he asked for solidarity from the Americas, the Organization of American States (OAS) and the United Nations.

"As president of Honduras, I let you know, under these circumstances, I will not support the electoral processes and I will impugn them according to the laws and in the name of men and women of my country," Zelaya said.

"We call on all the nations which recognize our government, not to support the actions of the illegal regime which usurped the power with the strength of the arms," he added.

Zelaya also said that to legitimize the elections under the post-coup government would mean compromising the unity of the nations of the Americas.

He called for the polls to be annulled and rescheduled to "respect the will of the people."
