President Hu Jintao meets with Macao's new gov't

Following this morning's inaugural ceremony, Chinese President Hu Jintao met Macao's new chief executive Chui Sai-On and other major officials of the new SAR government. He says the central government believes the new SAR government will live up to the people's expectations and create new momentum for Macao's development.

Hu Jintao first congratulated Chui on formally taking office as Macao's third-term Chief Executive.

He told Chui that the central government has faith in his ability and the Macao people are full of expectation of his performance.

President Hu said the central government hopes that Chui can meet the challenge, and closely unite people of all circles of life. He asked him to upgrade Macao's social progress to a new level, in accordance with the one-country two-systems principle and the basic law.

He pledged full support from the central government for the SAR government's work.
