CCTV names Economic Person of the Year

Results of the 2009 Economic Person of the Year came out on December 23, 2009 at an award ceremony held at the Beijing Exhibition Center. Dong Wenbiao, Charles Chao, Tan Yue and another 7 people were named the 2009 Economic Person of the Year. Frank Ning, Wang Shi, Ma Weihua and 7 people were chosen as Business Leaders of the Decade.

Since its inception in 2000, the CCTV Economic Person of the Year has come to its tenth anniversary. As it's the selection of China's most professional, most influential, the award is not just China's "Oscar of economic circles", but also the "vane" of China's economic and social development.

This year's selection kicked off on November 5, 2009, and selection criteria included creativity, motivation, vision and responsibility.

CEO and president of Sina Charles Chao, China Banking Corporation Chairman Dong Wenbiao, Shenzhen Capital Group Chairman Jin Haitao, chairman of Geely Automobile Holding Li Shufu, Guangdong Galanz Enterprise Group CEO Liang Chao-Hsien, chairman of Jiangsu Shagang Group Shen Wenrong, chairman and CEO at Neusoft Group Ltd Liu Jiren, Phoenix Publishing & Media Group chairman Tan Yue, Chongqing Changan Automobile Co., Ltd., chairman Xu Liuping, and chairman of New Oriental Education Group Yu Minhong were elected top ten Economic Person of the Year.

Liu Haitao, head of Wuxi Institution of Sensor Web Industry under the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Yin Weidong, president of Sinovac--also known as Beijing Kexing Bioproducts received the Annual Innovation Award.

Chief Executive and President of Fuyao Glass Industry Group Company Limited Cao Dewang and Yu Pengnian, chairman of Pengnian Industries received Annual Public Welfare of the Year Award.

The highlight of this year's selection is besides the top ten CCTV Economic Person of the Year, there is a special award called Business Leaders of the Decade, and candidates of this award came from the previous winner of CCTV Economic Person of the Year.

Business Leaders of the Decade are: Frank Ning, Wang Shi, Ma Weihua, Jack Ma, Ma Huateng, Wang Jianlin, Li Dongsheng, Liu Chuanzhi, Wei Jiafu and Zhang Ruimin.

In addition, among nominees for the 2009 CCTV Economic Person of the Year are Wang Xin, Chairman of Yanzhou Coal Mining Company Limited and Lei Chuang, a Hepatitis B virus carrier who was the first in China to successfully obtain a health certificate that allows him to work in the catering industry.
