DHAKA, Feb. 8 (Xinhua) -- A team of 24 surgeons and nurses successfully separated a pair of conjoined female infants in Bangladesh's capital Dhaka who were joined at their lower chest.

Head of Surgery of Dhaka Shishu (Children) Hospital, AR Khan, led more than a two-hour long surgery from 9:45 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. local time to separate the twins.

After the surgery, Khan said the conditions of the separated twins are stable. The twins -- Moni and Mukta -- will remain in close observations at the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit of the hospital, he said.

In August last year, Trisna Pal, wife of a village farmer Joyprokash Pal in Bangladesh's northwestern Dinajpur district, gave birth to the twins in a caesarean operation.
