RAMALLAH, Feb. 20 (Xinhua) -- Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas has appointed a special presidential representative, filling a post that had been vacant since March 2008, official news agency Wafa reported Saturday.

The new representative is Rafeeq al-Natsha, a senior official from Abbas's Fatah party, according to Wafa.

Natsha heads an internal tribunal within Fatah, dedicated to examine wrongdoing by the party's members.

Abbas's personal representative's post had been vacant since Abbas fired Rawhi Fatouh, another Fatah official who used to be the parliament speaker, over alleged corruption.

The appointment of Natsha comes days after Israeli television aired a video tape showing one of Abbas' aides in an obscene situation, apparently about to have sex with an unidentified woman.

Following the news, Abbas fired his secretary, Rafeeq al- Hussini, and ordered investigation.
