BEIJING, April 2 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao said on Friday that healthy and stable economic and trade relations between China and the United States serve the interests of both countries.

Hu made the remarks when talking with U.S. President Barack Obama during a phone conversation.

As uncertainties still remain in the global economic recovery, both China and the United States face the challenge of boosting the economic recovery and maintaining stable economic development, he said.

The Chinese president hopes that both sides could settle their trade disputes through dialogue and consultation.

Obama said his country understands the challenges that China is facing in its economic development, and both countries should continue to make efforts to address each other's concerns and achieve the global economic recovery and balanced development.

Properly handling Taiwan and Tibet issues, which concern China's sovereignty and territorial integrity and represent China's core interest,is key to the Sino-U.S. relations, Hu said.

China attaches great importance to the issue of nuclear security, opposing nuclear proliferation and nuclear terrorism, and supporting international efforts to enhance cooperation on nuclear security, he said.
