PYONGYANG, April 9 (Xinhua) -- The people of the DPRK and the Korean People's Army (KPA) were keeping a vigilant watch on the U.S., Minister of the People's Armed Forces of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) Kim Yong Chun said Thursday.

According to the Rodong Sinmun Friday, Kim Yong Chun made the statement at the national meeting to celebrate the 17th anniversary of leader Kim Jong Il's election as chairman of the National Defence Commission of the DPRK at the April 25 House of Culture.

He said DPRK policy towards the U.S. and the strained situation on the Korean Peninsula had not been changed. The U.S. designed a series of aggression plans and held joint war exercises against the DPRK constantly, he was quoted as saying. If the U.S. and its adherent dared to invade the DPRK, the KPA would blow up the enemy with no mercy.

Kim Jong Il was elected chairman of the National Defence Commission on April 9, 1993.
