2010-04-13 09:19 BJT

A grand gala on Sunday night opened the final round of CCTV's National Young Singers TV Contest. It means that the biennial event has entered its most competitive stage.

After twenty rounds of semi-finals, the top thirty contestants of each of the five categories will fight it out for the final prizes.

This year's contest is different from previous events in some aspects. For the first time in the contest's history, no member of the judging panel is allowed to score a performance in which their own students or creative works are involved. Also, regional representatives have a stronger presence on the judging panel to ensure equity.

Organizers have also decided to call off the "All-round Qualities Test" that was used to measure contestants' knowledge beyond the musical field. This is now replaced by a performing ability presentation.
