Relief materials flow to quake-hit areas

Relief efforts have been coordinated from all corners of China to aid quake survivors. The relief supplies are flooding into the disaster zone in Qinghai province via air, rail and road transportation.

Nearly 15-thousand quilts and blankets have been dispatched from Chengdu North railway station in Sichuan Province to the quake-hit areas in Qinghai. Aid workers loaded the train in just one hour. Transportation authorities redirected other rail services to ensure the train's speedy passage to Xining,capital of Qinghai province.

Song Dengzhi, Director of Chengdu North Railway Station, said, "Our station is using its best trains and carriages for the relief mission. All relative departments have given top priority to the relief efforts."

In northwest China's Shaanxi Province, the Xianyang International Airport has organized flights bound for the quake-hit area. The People's Liberation Army's general logistics department has prepared 150 tons of food supplies, including canned meat, biscuits and vegetables.

In east China's Anhui Province, relief teams have scrambled to organize vehicles and personnel. An allotment of 5-thousand tents was loaded on to trucks heading to the disaster zone. Each tent covers a space of 12 square meters.

Xue Kunming, Director of Anhui Prov. Disaster Relief Office, said, "These tents are in excellent quality. They provide shelter against bad weather and will be useful to people affected by the quake."

Hubei and Guangdong Provinces have mobilized commercial passenger planes to send relief materials to Qinghai. China Southern Airlines has already carried out a dozen such flights. They have transported nearly a thousand relief workers and more than 100 tons of aid supplies to the quake-hit regions.
