Colombian army kills 5 FARC rebels, detains 2 members

BOGOTA, April 25 (Xinhua) -- The Colombian Army killed five members of the country's largest rebel group, the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC), and detained two FARC members, Commander of the Ninth Brigade William Torres said on Sunday.

Torres said two rebels were killed in a combat in San Vicente del Caguan municipality of southern Caqueta department, while three others were killed in San Agustin municipality of southwestern Huila department.

In its operation in Planadas town in Tolima department in center-west of the country, the army detained a senior FARC member known as "Pompilio". In Huila, it detained an alleged FARC member with the alias of "Alcides".

Torres said four soldiers were injured by land mines in the operations.
