An Egypt Air domestic flight from Alexandria to Cairo has been hijacked and has landed at Larnaca airport in the southern coast of Cyprus. The Cyprus Broadcasting Corporation reports. Meanwhile statement from Egyptian aviation authority says the MS 181 is an Airbus and that it has about 60 people on board, including 55 passengers.
Earlier it was reported that 80 were on board. At least one man is thought to be armed.
The hijacking occurred in Cyprus's flight information region and the airliner was diverted to Larnaca. Cypriot police said, the hijackers contacted the control tower at about 0530 GMT, and the plane was given permission to land 20 minutes later.
The hijackers made no immediate demands and a crisis team has been deployed to the airport. We'll keep you updated.
