Award-winning short films screen at Beijing Film Academy

Eight award-winning films from the 3rd Golden Panda International North American Short Film Festival screened in Beijing Film Academy March 30. The organizing committee invited film directors and casts to exchange their thoughts and to communicate with teachers and students from the Academy. 

Zhang Junhui, Dean of the Beijing Film Academy, along with Sandy You, member of Golden Panda Short Film Festival executive organizing committee, and Christopher Lane, judge of the 3rd Golden Panda Short Film Festival, also attended the ceremony. Zhang accepted invitation as the Chairman of the 2016 Golden Panda Short Film Festival committee.

Among screened films, Special Jury Award film "The Stepmother," directed by Chinese young director Liang Shuang, got most attention from the audience. The film portrays the lives of two women. The recurring theme of picked vegetables symbolizes the shared life of the step-mother and step-daughter in the film, finding a tart sweetness amid the sour aspects of their experiences.

Other screened films are: "The Fighter" (Best Humanistic Vision); "The Chunk and the Whore" (Best Screenplay); "Seeker Wing" (Best Animated Short Film); "Mother's Day" (Special Jury Award); "Aden" (Best Director); "Drunk Beauty" (Best Picture); and "Offspring of Mount Tianshan" (Most Popular Short Film Online).

Award-winning short film creators shared the artistic features, shooting techniques, and behind-the-scenes stories with the audience. Teachers and students from the Beijing Film Academy gave positive feedback about those short films; they spoke in praise of the wide-range of themes, and the creativeness of shooting techniques. Zhang said the communication between film creators is very beneficial, and he hopes there will be more similar activities in the future to strengthen the international movie art communication.

This screening ceremony was the opening event of the China International Cultural Experience trip in Beijing. Participants will visit the Great Wall, Palace Museum, Summer Palace, take the high-speed railway and enjoy other activities in the next few days, to experience and achievements of the reform and opening up, and Chinese culture and history.
