World Figure Skating Championships opens in Boston

The eyes of the world have turned to Boston as 200 of its greatest figure skaters compete for the prized title of world champion.

The world's most important annual skating competition, is coming to TD Garden for the first in its 130-year history.

China's youngster Jin Bo'yang, who won a silver in this year's Four Continents, finished 89.86 points in the short program, ranking fifth overall. However another Chinese Yan Han finished only 26th among 30 skaters and failed to make to the free skating.

Olympic gold medalist Yuzuru Hanyu skated the latest flawless program of a brilliant season to take a large lead of 110.56 points to lead defending champ Javier Fernandez by more than 12.

Earlier the ice dancing opened with the short dance, and 30 pairs took part in the competition.

China's Wang Shi'yue and Liu Xin'yu competed in the world championships for the second time. The pair would earn 52.92 points and rank 22nd among all, failing to making it to the next round.

Gabriella Papadakis and Guillaume Cizeron of France would lead after the short dance. The reigning world champions scored 76.29 points with their waltz and march, followed by two American teams.
