China has assumed the rotating presidency of the United Nations Security Council for April. Liu Jieyi, China's Permanent Representative to the UN, held a briefing on the Council's planned work for this month at the UN headquarters in New York City.
He said three public debates would be held on the Palestine-Israel issue, China's proposal of holding an anti-terrorism public meeting, and an anti-piracy meeting proposed by China, Angola and Senegal. The council presidency rotates among its 15 member states based on the English-language alphabetical order of the countries' names on a monthly basis.
