The country's major roads and railways have witnessed a return travel peak on this last day of the Qingming holiday. On Monday alone, a total of more than 11 million trips are expected to be made on the country's railway network, where eastern China's Yangtze River Delta sees the most departures.

Railway authorities have added more than 500 extra trains to meet the surge. And torrential rains has stranded passengers in South China's Guangzhou Baiyun Airport.  More than 90 flights were reportedly delayed for over an hour. Weather authorities have warned the rain may put further pressure on the traffic surge.
