BEIJING, April 6 (Xinhua) -- The Key to the City is an honor bestowed by a city upon esteemed residents and visitors.

Chinese President Xi Jinping has received several Keys to the City during his state visits, all embodiment of the friendship between the people of the destination country and the Chinese people.

KEY TO PRAGUE

On March 29, 2016, President Xi Jinping received the Key to Prague City presented by Mayor Adriana Krnacova during his visit to Czech.

Xi said receiving the Key to the City of Prague showed the profound friendship the people of the Czech Republic and the people in Prague hold towards China. Prague is a famous historical city in Europe, and the whole city is the first one in the world listed as a world heritage site. With the splendid scenery, profound culture and friendly people in Prague, the key will remind him of the wonderful memories of Prague.

On June 5, 2013, President Xi Jinping received the Key to Mexico City presented by Mayor Miguel Mancera in Mexico City, capital of Mexico.

Mexico City is a witness to the friendly exchanges between China and Mexico, Xi said, expressing the hope that Mexico City will boost exchanges and cooperation with Chinese provinces and cities so as to help promote the development of the overall China-Mexico ties.

On July 3, 2013, President Xi Jinping and his wife Peng Liyuan received the Key to the City of San Jose from Johnny Araya, the mayor, in San Jose, capital of Costa Rica.

Xi said Mayor Araya presenting him the Key to the City of San Jose and the title of the Honored Guest was not only an honor for himself, but also the embodiment of Costa Rican people's friendship to the Chinese People. He hoped that the two countries will strengthen local exchange and enhance the mutual understanding and friendship of the two peoples.
