Revenue of China's box office in first quarter robust

The first quarter of 2016 has been a great period for China's box office. Total volume hit 14.5 billion yuan, up almost 50 percent from the same period last year. Experts say China's movie entertainment sector is on the fast track.

"This is an astonishing figure and it will draw world wide attention. Foreign and especially Hollywood firms will try to get more access as the Chinese cinema market becomes more open," said Zuo Heng, deputy director of China Cinematic Art Research Center.

In January, box office revenue nationwide reached 3.9 billion yuan, and then it jumped to 6.9 billion yuan in February due to the effect of the Chinese New Year festival season, exceeding the performance of the North American market. March, which is traditionally an off-season for films, still recorded a 3.8 trillion yuan box office revenue.
