The Federal Reserve appears unlikely to raise interest rates before June, as suggested by the Fed’s March 15 to 16 policy meeting released Wednesday.

The minutes showed policymakers debated whether they might hike rates in April. But their discussions mainly focused on the Fed’s limited ability to counter the blow of a global economic slowdown. The Fed’s officials signaled at the close of the March meeting that they expected to raise rates twice this year.

The meeting results went in line with general market expectations of no rate hikes in April despite the fact a small minority still think a rate increase is possible. The Fed will next convene in mid-June.
