Instead of throwing leftovers away, a restaurant owner in Kochi, India puts them in a refrigerator outside the shop for homeless people.

The idea came after the owner saw a homeless woman eating from trash cans. The fridge is open 24/7 and anybody can use it. The food is mostly leftovers.

"Not only will the fridge change the lives of the homeless community here, it also teaches people the importance of not wasting food," said Minu Pauline, owner of Pappadavada.

The fridge also receives regular donations from the neighbourhood. All the food is asked to be labelled with expiration dates.
