German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier begins a three-day visit to China on Friday , at the invitation of Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi. Wang said in a joint statement he hopes the G20 summit will help boost the world economy. Steinmeier praised China's increasingly active role in solving world conflicts.

"We have agreed to enhance cooperation and coordination within the G20. We hope the G20 will make concrete efforts to help the world economy out of the difficult situation and find new paths for growth, so that we can build a more creative, active and connective economic environment," said Wang.

"We had a very smooth talk and it is because that we have been bonded in solving many world conflicts in recent years. We see that China has become more active in taking major responsibility for world major issues, such as Iran nuclear talks and the Afghanistan peace process," said Steinmeier.

Steinmeier also talked about this September's upcoming visit by German Chancellor Angel Merkel to China, for the G20 summit in Hangzhou. Steinmeier said that Germany would like to share its experiences of energy transformation with China. He also said he hopes people-to-people exchanges will be enhanced.

The two foreign ministers are set to co-chair the second session of the Chinese-German strategic dialogue on diplomatic and security affairs during Steinmeier's visit. The first session of the strategic dialogue was held in Berlin last year.
