Chinese premier sends condolences to Indian counterpart over temple fire

BEIJING, April 12 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Premier Li Keqiang on Monday sent a message of condolences to his Indian counterpart, Narendra Modi, over a deadly temple fire in the southern Indian state of Kerala.

Li said he was shocked by the news of the tragedy that left many people dead and many others injured in the state of Kerala.

"I'd like to extend, on behalf of the Chinese government and in my personal name, profound condolences to the victims and heartfelt sympathy to their families and those injured," said Li.

At least 112 people were killed and many others injured in the fire caused by festive fireworks at the famous Puttingal Devi temple in Kerala early Sunday.
