Sporadic fighting continued overnight till Monday, after the fourth Yemeni ceasefire took official effect midnight on Sunday.

The new ceasefire was backed by the UN secretary-general's special envoy and mediated by the international community.

All sides are expecting this one will pave the way for renewed peace talks to be held in Kuwait next week. But sporadic gun fire could still be heard from Nehim, a region some 40 kilometers away from the Yemeni capital of Sanaa on Monday. Houthi fighters and pro-government militias blame each other.

"The ceasefire took official effect at midnight last night. But at one o'clock their fighter jets came to bomb us. Their ground force was pushing forward, and now they are firing at us with 12-millimeter caliber guns and armored vehicle guns. They also used artillery and rockets. We have to defend ourselves. We are defending our bottom line and integrity," said Abu Ali, Houthi senior commander.

"Actions violating the ceasefire have been taking place in many areas here. Some were close to our brigade base. The fighting kept going from six o’clock yesterday evening up until this morning," said pro-government militia fighter.
