Today marks the beginning of Week of Cancer Prevention and Cure in China. Health experts and authorities are calling on people to adjust their ways of life to reduce the behaviours that could lead to cancer.

In the past year, more than 4.3 million people were diagnosed with cancer and 2.8 million died from the disease. Obesity, a sedentary lifestyle, lack of sleep, smoking and air pollution are considered the top causes of cancer. Lung cancer is considered the deadliest in China, with its death rate surging more than 4.6 times in the past three decades. Experts believe most cancers can be prevented or controlled in their early stages and urge people to get regular medical check-ups and seek early treatment.
