China’s special envoy for Syria, Xie Xiaoyan, has met with Staffan De Mistura, the United Nation’s special envoy.

Xie stressed that the parties to the peace talks should not lose their confidence no matter how big the differences are. He said the international community has made headway in resolving the crisis in Syria.

And he praised efforts by the U.N. and the U.N. Special Envoy to bring the warring sides back to negotiations, adding the U.N. should continue playing a leading role in pushing forward such peace talks.

Xie is on his first trip abroad after being appointed as the Chinese envoy. He urged all parties to put their focus on humanitarian relief. He also said China is committed to making contributions in this regard.

“The Syria crisis is an issue that has profound impact on international peace and regional stability. China hopes to play a more important role in resolving the crisis. We are putting on the table Chinese wisdom, and Chinese solutions,” Xie said.
