Here's some promising news: 80% of China's population has a "reading habit", according to the latest survey of the Chinese Academy of Press and Publication.

Based on responses from more than 45,000 people in 81 cities in 29 regions, it found that Chinese people, on average, read eight books in 2015, a small increase over previous years that may be attributed in part to mobile technology. Of the eight books read, three were in digital form, the most popular genres being urban romance, history, and fantasy.

Released just ahead of the 21st World Book Day, this is the Academy's 13th survey since 1999.
