Representatives from Yemen's two warring factions have started peace negotiations in Kuwait. The UN-backed talks aim to end a year-long conflict between Yemen's internationally recognised government, backed by Saudi Arabia -- and a rebel Houthi group, backed by forces loyal to former President Ali Abdullah Saleh. The talks were originally scheduled to start on Monday but clashes in the capital, Sanaa, forced their delay.

"I invite you to attend the meetings to reach a political solution and end this crisis. The path to peace can be complicated but we can do it. There are different points of views but we can find common ground. There are many hurdles but if we put our minds to it we can overcome them," said Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed, UN envoy to Yemen.

"In the name of Kuwait, its government and its people, it's my pleasure to welcome our Yemeni brothers to their second country, Kuwait, to participate in the Yemen negotiations under the supervision of the UN in order to find a solution for Yemen. To decrease the bloodshed and end the human suffering which they have endured and still endure," said Foreign Minister of Kuwait Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah.
